In working with both primary and secondary sources, students will hone their skills in research methods, critical thinking and expository/analytical writing. The History Minor pairs well with other disciplines such as government and politics, law, and political science, among countless others. The History Minor is designed to introduce students to the broad field of historical study, both by deepening their knowledge and understanding of the past and by developing their ability to do critical, historically-minded analysis. About the History Minor Requirements Participating students are required to complete 18 credits (6 courses) in History. The courses must be distributed in at least 2 geographic fields (Asia, Europe, Middle East, United States, etc.) and must include at least one course in each of two chronological periods (pre-1750/post-1750). A minimum of 9 credits are required in courses at the 300- or 400- level. No more than 3 credits (1 course) may be at the 100- level, and no more than 3 credits (1 course) can be fulfilled by AP, IB, or transfer credit. Please note that the History Major and the History Minor are not interchangeable. The Major allows students to complete more in-depth study of a particular interest, engages students with research seminars, and allows a much greater understanding of the field.
